Art Morning and Eskimeaux Show

Art morning? Yes! I got really antsy this morning, found an old pencil sketch of a turkey and took it downstairs to revisit it with Kat's generously donated box of art supplies. Lucy, my favorite cat, was sitting on the table so I had to weave her into the mix. Hope you like the overall thing. I enjoyed making it.

Then, as mentioned earlier, my band Mr. Moccasin had the wonderful opportunity to do a show with Eskimeaux (Gabby Smith, featured here in this photo) and Exactly (a neat, raw DC band that kind of sounds like early Flaming Lips but rendered by two magical dudes fondling crusty keyboards, and a hammering drummer).

This concert went down at the Hexagon on Wednesday, June 3rd.

I first met Gabby by booking a show for Philadelphia's Br'er, a weird folk ensemble in which she played several instruments, at the Golden West Cafe. It was then great to discover how rad her own songs are.

Eskimeaux draws icy sweet pop from tinsel-toned ukulele and guitar, and her sad, soft vocals lose you in a swell of storied dreams and spirals. What a moving performance she gave! It totally made all the planning and promoting of our show worth it.

Finally, below is a picture of Mr. Moccasin, from the show.
