Abiku

From time to time, I film bands that inspire me. I was delighted to have had the opportunity to film Abiku, a unique screamy, post-apocalyptic noise-thrash-dance band from Baltimore. I think that’s how to describe them.

Jane Vincent and Josh Jaworsky, a duo, stack up endless totem poles of huge amps, monitors and speakers. In sparkling warlock costumes, they sway and writhe before synthesizers, inflicting static doom on a death metal guitar and charming keytar. Jane screams most colorfully, ranging from guttural wolf sounds to more desperately human wails, through a headset microphone hidden beneath her sequined hood. I adore this band.
