High Places

On Sunday I had the good fortune of watching High Places from Brooklyn, NY perform at the Floristree in rain-speckled Baltimore. The duo, Mary Pearson and Robert Barber, pushed their hybrid of electronic and natural percussion to the max. The result was sensationally danceable.

Pearson’s linear vocal style, tripped out by reverb and other effects, gave their set a modern European vibe that made everyone pretty happy to be alive.

Hot moments included watching Barber whack some tropical rainforest club beats out of his drum pads, triggered snare and woodblocks, and hearing Pearson ferociously shake auxiliary percussive instruments or hammer a silver bell.

Keep this dynamic team on your radar for future pleasure.
